Hornby R078 BR Class A3 Pacific Flying Scotsman 60103 loco & tender
This highly collectable and very rare model is the extremely hard to get hold of Hornby R078 model of the BR/LNER A1/A3 class locomotive ‘Flying Scotsman’. The locomotive is finished in the design applicable to the BR period of 1961-1963 and is the only Hornby model ever made that features the German Smoke deflectors that were fitted to the real locomotive at this time. This rarely available 4-6-2 locomotive is finished in BR dark green livery and with the correct, black spoked wheels, it is absolutely stunning. Only available for a 2-year period in 1993/5, this locomotive, numbered 60103, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item. We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be. Wired handrails, brass safety valves and red boiler bands are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item and the model is just a beautifully made evocative item. The 8-wheel none corridor tender is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked with the BR icon. It houses the motor and is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling. The original box is in a bright, sharp, unfaded and correctly labelled condition. The right hand box end flap has the original yellow label still sealed across it and this has the correct model number and description. Inside the box, an undamaged, clear sculptured surround protects the locomotive. A copy of the original Hornby maintenance and instructions sheet numbered remains with this model and as this is the first one of these we have had for ages, please don’t miss it.
This item predates digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.
As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
