Hornby R2231 BR Duchess Class Duchess of Rutland steam locomotive
This highly collectable model is the original and powerful Hornby R2231 4-6-2 Duchess Class BR/LMS steam locomotive ‘Duchess of Rutland’. This locomotive/model is in mint factory fresh condition and has been shelf stored since new. It has never seen or been on a layout and is still wrapped in the original white Hornby despatch tissue in the box. This rarely available locomotive is finished in BR green livery and with the correct factory black spoked wheels and detailed valve gear, it is absolutely stunning. This item was constructed in the modern manner and was only available for a short period from 2002. This locomotive, numbered 46228 is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item. We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be. Blackened wire handrails, double chimney and brass whistles are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item. The model is just a beautifully made evocative item. This is the version that features the loco mounted 5 pole skew wound motor and sloping smoke box top. Additional items include sprung silver buffers at the front and rear of the model and a still sealed super detail pack. The 6-wheel none corridor tender is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked with the BR icon. It does not house the motor, as this is located in the locomotive. The correctly labelled original box is in a bright, sharp, fully intact and unfaded condition. The full length, full colour graphics card that depicts the model in the box, sits in between the model and the clear undamaged acetate front of the box. Inside the box a copy of the original instructions numbered R22310602 remains with this item. The whole model is as complete as you could ever hope to obtain and you are unlikely to source a better item. It predates DCC but should be an easy conversion with the correct Hornby digital chip.
