Wrenn W2224 ex LMS now BR British Railways Class 8F 2-8-0
This highly collectable and distinctive model is the original Wrenn W2224 British Railways BR Class 8F 2-8-0 steam locomotive. The locomotive has just been fully serviced and is guaranteed to work. This hard to find locomotive and tender are in factory fresh, mint, unmarked condition and remain in the original protective tissue they were dispatched in. Both the model and box are superb and in this all black BR livery, it is an extremely evocative example. The model is a beautifully constructed heavy die cast example. The detailing is absolutely fantastic and a real feast for discerning eyes. Wired handrails, circular dome and brass whistles are just 3 of the distinctive features on the locomotive. The black multi spoked driving wheels are prototypically correct and are directly driven as the motor for the model is located in the locomotive as opposed to the tender. The 6-wheel none corridor tender is also clearly marked with the BR icon and is fitted at the rear with the Hornby type tension lock coupling. All transfers on the model are intact and the locomotive bares the running number 48073. There are no packer codes to the bottom of the base box. The box lid is correctly labeled for the contents it protects. Inside the box the model remains wrapped in the original factory despatch tissue and the 2 circular packing pieces all remain in place. This is a totally unrun model and this model is just as complete as you could ever hope to find. Although we have not spotted any defects, we describe all Wrenn models as NMIB because the very nature of their original part hand built construction is not up to the high standards of modern manufacturing. It is supplied with the original blue book of operating instructions which is slightly crumpled where it has been wrapped around the locomotive whilst in the box. The item would be a welcome addition to any serious collectors portfolio of stock and as it is in an ‘as new condition’ we think it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to find a better example elsewhere.
This item predates digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.
As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
