Hornby R378 BR British Railways Britannia Class ‘Tennyson’ Ltd Edn
This highly collectable and powerful item is the extremely hard to get hold of Hornby Limited Edition R378 British Rail Britannia Class steam locomotive Tennyson. This model never appeared in the main Hornby catalogue and was manufactured for the sole distribution by the catalogue company Kays in 1991. Just 2000 examples were produced and all were snapped up immediately. This item is in mint, factory fresh condition and is just as good as the day it was first despatched from the factory. It has never seen, or been on a layout, and has been stored in the box since new. This rarely available 4-6-2 locomotive is finished in BR green livery with single orange boiler bands. Complete with the single chimney, very intricate valve gear and the correct, black multi spoked wheels, it is absolutely stunning. Only available for I year in 1991 and never re-released, this item was constructed in the modern manner. This locomotive, numbered 70032, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item. We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be. Wired handrails, brass whistles and detailed cab interior are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item and the model is just a beautifully made evocative item. The 6-wheel none corridor tender that houses the motor is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked with the BR icon. It is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling and like the locomotive, also features wired handrails. The original Hornby box is in a bright, unfaded mint condition. Inside the box, the original undamaged and moulded clear plastic surround protects the locomotive & tender. The still sealed packet that contains the driver and fireman figurines remains with this model. This model is just as good and complete as you could ever hope to obtain and the original Hornby instructions and maintenance sheet together with the Limited Edition Certificate Number both remain with this item. A lovely, & very rarely available, model that will be supplied in the original Kays outer mailer.
This item predates digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.
As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
