Hornby R320 Southern Region Limited Edition Battle of Britain ‘Exeter
As the outer package was sealed when we obtained this item, this was the first time the box had been opened since manufacture. If you want the cheapest then this item will not be for you but if you require the best, please read on. This highly collectable model is the extremely hard to get hold of Hornby R320 Limited Edition individually certificated model of the Southern Region West Country or Battle of Britain Class steam locomotive ‘Exeter’. The model is in mint factory fresh condition and has been shelf stored since new. It has never seen or been on a layout. This rarely available Limited Edition 4-6-2 locomotive is finished in SR malachite green livery with the correct, black solid wheels. It is absolutely stunning. Only available for a 1-year period in 1995, this item was constructed in the modern manner. Worldwide production was limited to just 4000 individually certificated units so these are rare beasts at the best of times. This locomotive, numbered 21C101, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item. We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be. Yellow markings, streamlined casing and interior cab detailing are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item and the model is just a beautifully made evocative item. The 6-wheel none corridor tender is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked Southern. It does not house the motor as the locomotive does this but the tender is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling. The original red box is in a bright, sharp, unfaded and correctly labelled condition. The right hand box end flap has the original yellow label with the correct model number and description and inside the box; a white undamaged, moulded polystyrene surround protects the locomotive. The unmarked plain white protective card remains with the item, as does the original Limited Edition Certificate numbered 2445 signed by Simon Kohler of Hornby Hobbies Ltd. Finally, the fully lined polished mahogany presentation box that features brass hinges and the Hornby Railways nameplate remains with this item. The original instructions also remain with this item. The whole ensemble is just as complete as you could ever wish to obtain. All of the contents of this listing will be despatched in the original Hornby protective outer mailer! As you would expect with a mahogany box, Hornby box, loco, tender, inner packaging and outer packaging, this item is extremely heavy so the postage is not cheap!
This item predates digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.
As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable )
