Hornby R072 LMS Coronation Class City of Bristol steam locomotive

This highly collectable model is the original and extremely hard to get hold of Hornby R072 model of the London Midland Scottish LMS Coronation Class 7P steam locomotive ‘City of Bristol’.  The model is in  near mint factory fresh condition and has been shelf stored for a very long time.  Apart from a short test run to ensure it works it has never seen or been on a layout.    This rarely available 4-6-2 locomotive is finished in LMS crimson and gold livery and with the correct black spoked wheels it is absolutely stunning.  Only available for a 1-year period between 1985 and 1986 and never re-released, this item was constructed in the modern manner.  This locomotive, numbered 6237, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item.   We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be.  Wired handrails, gold coach lines and highly intricate valve gear are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item. The model is just a beautifully made evocative locomotive.  The 6-wheel none corridor tender is in just as good a condition and is clearly marked with the LMS insignia.   The tender housing is a loose fit on the chassis but then again, they all were!  The tender houses the motor and is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling.  The original box is in a bright, unfaded and sharp condition with only some light surface scuffs.  The box is correctly labelled for the contents it protects.   The right hand end flap has been clear tape reinforced from the inside and a surface tear to the bottom right hand corner has been clear tape repaired.  Inside the box, an undamaged and sculptured 2-part polystyrene surround protects the locomotive and in between this and the clear acetate front of the box, the original full-length silhouette graphics card that depicts the enclosed model is also included.  This item is just about as good and complete as you could ever hope to obtain.

This item predates digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.

As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
