Hornby R242 Toplink BR Britannia Class pacific ‘Robert Burns’.

This highly collectable and powerful item is the extremely hard to get hold of Hornby Limited Edition R242 Toplink British Rail Britannia Class steam locomotive ‘Robert Burns’.    Toplink is the name that Hornby applies to its most prestigious and detailed items and this item is no exception.     This Limited Edition item is in mint, factory fresh condition and is just as good as the day it was first despatched from the factory.  It has never seen, or been on a layout, and has been stored in the box since new.  This item is just 1 of a Limited production run of just 2000 for worldwide distribution in 1996. This rarely available 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive is finished in BR green livery with orange boiler bands.  Complete with the single chimney, intricate valve gear and the correct, black multi spoked wheels, it is absolutely stunning.  Only available for I year in 1996 and never re-released, this item was constructed in the modern manner.  This locomotive, numbered 70006, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item.  We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be.  Wired handrails, brass whistles and detailed cab interior are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item and the model is just a beautifully made evocative item.  The 6-wheel none corridor tender that houses the motor is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked with the BR icon.  It is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling and like the locomotive, also features wired handrails.  The original Hornby Toplink box is in a bright, sharp and  in an unfaded condition, one corner of the box has been mended  with selotape. The box is correctly labelled for the contents it protects.  Inside the box, the original undamaged and sculptured polystyrene surround protects the locomotive.   This locomotive is just as good as you could ever hope to obtain and is becoming increasingly hard to source.

This item predates modern digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.

As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
