Hornby R796 Stephenson’s Rocket Train Pack

This highly collectable 5-piece train pack is the complete Hornby R796 Stephenson’s Rocket train pack set.  This item is in factory fresh, mint condition, and has been shelf stored since new.  It is just as good as the day it was first made all those years ago and apart from a demo test run to ensure it worked, it has never been, or been seen, on a layout.    This model dates from the early years of the 1980’s and is supplied in it’s original box with it’s original instructions.  The train pack comprises the 0-2-2 Rocket locomotive, matching tender and 3 individually named coaches.  All items are finished in unmarked Liverpool & Manchester Railway yellow livery.  The name Rocket is clearly printed on both sides of the locomotive.  Featuring brass whistle and safety valve as well as yellow spoked wheels, this is a very evocative model of an era long since gone.  This item features the much rarer nickel-plated rims on the engine and tender and metal tyres on the coaches.  If you intend to run the set on a track a light lubrication may be appropriate because of the length of time in storage.  You will be unlikely to find a better condition model than this.  The coaches are named ‘Times’, ‘Experience’ and ‘Despatch’.  All 3 coaches are complete with all steps, clear sign writing and all buffers.  They all have Hornby/Triang tension lock couplings at each end and their condition would be impossible to be improved upon.

The original outer presentation box is in a bright, sharp, unfaded and fully intact condition.  It does have some very light outer surface scuffs and marks from over 20 years in dry storage.  The white vacuum formed inner surround has one crack on its top back edge.  After all of these years the original Hornby instructions sheet has remained with this model. This is a complete set for the connoisseur and represents a genuine investment opportunity for the future market.  There are no driver and fireman figurines with this model and it really isn’t suitable for DCC conversion either.  This item is just as good a condition as you could ever wish to obtain.
