Triang Hornby R861 BR Class 9F Evening Star steam tender locomotive

This highly collectable model is the extremely hard to get hold of Triang Hornby R861 model of the last ever steam locomotive built by British Railways.  This is the original launch model of the BR locomotive ‘Evening Star’.  The model is in mint factory fresh condition and has been shelf stored since new.  Apart from a test run it has never seen or been on a layout.  This rarely available 2-10-0 locomotive is finished in BR gloss green livery and with the correct, black spoked wheels it is absolutely stunning.  Only available for a 1-year period from 1971, this item was constructed in the modern manner.  This locomotive, numbered 92200, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item.   We removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be.  Orange boiler bands, double chimney and the highly detailed copper pipe work are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item and the model is just a beautifully made evocative locomotive.  The 6-wheel none corridor tender is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked with the British Railways icon.   It houses the motor and, like the front of the engine, is fitted with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling. The locomotive and tender are permanently coupled together for both mechanical and electrical purposes.  The original box is in a bright, unfaded and sharp condition with only minor surface scuffs to the sharp outer edges of the 2-part picture box and base.  The left hand end of the box lid has the original label with the correct model number and description.  Inside the box, a sky blue vacuum formed plastic surround protects the locomotive & tender whilst they are stored away.  The original instructions numbered R861210172 remain with this model and in all respects it is just as complete as you could ever wish to obtain.

This item predates the latest digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.

As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
