Hornby Sir Ralph Wedgewood triple A4 set in Mahogany case + boxes
This highly collectable and extremely hard to come by lot is the complete Hornby Railways set of the BR and LNER A4 Pacific locomotives all baring the name Sir Ralph Wedgewood. This is not the usual offering that is missing certificates, instruction sheets etc etc. This 3 locomotive set has absolutely everything and is a rare find. All 3 examples are in mint, unused factory fresh condition and have been dry stored since new. This original Limited Edition set was released in 1994 and contained the outer mahogany presentation case, the R353 60006 BR A4 Pacific Green example, the Hornby maintenance instructions and it’s own individual Limited Edition Certificate. Sold separately and released shortly thereafter came the R328 4469 example in LNER Garter Blue and finally to complete the set, the wartime black version numbered R341. All models were only available for a limited period and as the items were all sold separately, it was up to the individual collector to source all 3 models to make the complete set before they sold out! All models have been constructed in the modern manner. They are all just as good as good as the day they were first made and it would be impossible to obtain better conditions. All feature wired handrails, intricate valve gear and cab detailing and the models are just beautifully made evocative items. The 8-wheel corridor tenders are in just as mint condition and all house the motor. Each tender is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling. The locomotives can all be stored and displayed in the illustrated Mahogany case with brass fixings. Each model sits in its own sculptured aperture inside the Mahogany case. For the collectors, in real life the Blue version was originally Gadwall 4469 and became Sir Ralph Wedgewood in 1939. The original Sir Ralph Wedgewood was destroyed in a wartime fire at York in 1942 and in 1944 Herring Gull was renamed as Sir Ralph Wedgewood to preserve the name of probably the most important man in the LNER’s history. In all respects this item is in the exactly condition you would wish to receive it. This is a very fine and extremely hard to come by set. The 3 Limited Edition Certificates and instructions sheets are all present. The original Hornby outer mailing box will also be used to despatch this set with the full protection it warrants. To complete the listing the 2 Hornby purple/red presentation boxes that the blue and black models were original supplied in, will also be included. The listing will be despatched in 2 parcels and costs for this are shown below. All in all, a fantastic set to either give or receive and not DCC ready as it predates this.
