Bachmann 31703 BR ex LNER Class B1 ‘Antelope’ 4-6-0 steam engine
This model is the original Bachmann 31703 Class B1, ‘antelope’, BR ex LNER 4-6-0 steam tender locomotive ‘Wildebeeste’. Originally designed by Thompson himself for the LNER, this hard to find locomotive and tender are in factory fresh, mint, unmarked condition and remain in the original protective tissue they were despatched in. Both the model and box are superb and in this BR all black livery it is an extremely evocative example. The model is a beautifully constructed item and the detailing is absolutely fantastic. Wired handrails, brass whistles and the single chimney are just 3 of the distinctive features on the locomotive. The black spoked and unvalanced driving wheels are prototypically correct and are directly driven, as the motor for the model is located in the locomotive as opposed to the tender. The 6-wheel corridor tender is fitted at the rear with a standard Hornby type tension lock coupling which enables it to be compatible with all proprietary and modern rolling stock. All transfers on the model are intact and the locomotive bares the running number 61010. The correctly labelled original box is in a bright-unfaded mint condition with a minimum of storage scuffmarks. The box lid is correctly labelled for the contents. Inside the box the model remains wrapped in the original factory despatch tissue. In all respects, this model is just as complete as you could ever hope to find. It is complete with the original operating and maintenance instructions and the still sealed packet that contains the driver and fireman figurines. It would be a welcome addition to any serious collectors portfolio of stock and as it is in mint condition, we think it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to find a better example elsewhere.
This item predates digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Bachmann chip.
As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).
